Major Jason I. Bennett has been appointed as the District Commander of the Southern District. He is a native of Boston, Mass., and a veteran of the U.S. Army Military Police Corps. He has served with the Baltimore Police Department for 18 years.
Prior to this position, he served as the Captain of the Northeastern District, Northern District and Executive Officer of the Administrative Bureau. Other prior assignments include Chief of Patrol Office, Eastern District Shift Commander, CitiWatch Operations Supervisor, Sector Sergeant in the Western and Southwestern Districts, Academy Instructor and Northeastern District patrol.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Social and Criminal Justice from the University of Arizona Global. He is also a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police.

As a board member of the Vanguard Justice Society (VJS), I bring over two decades of dedicated service within the Baltimore Police Department (BPD), having commenced my career in 2002. With 22 years of invaluable experience, I've traversed various roles and districts, ascending from the rank of Police Officer to Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant.
My journey with the VJS began in 2005, culminating in my appointment to the board in 2015. Throughout my tenure, I've championed the cause of equality and justice, striving to ensure that all members of the BPD are treated with fairness and impartiality. My extensive background spans assignments across diverse districts, including Western, Southwest, Northwest, Southeast, and Central, offering me a comprehensive understanding of the department's operations and challenges.
In addition to my operational roles, I've served in specialized units such as Internal Affairs, Mounted Unit Special Investigations Section, and the Health and Wellness Section, enriching my perspective on the multifaceted issues facing law enforcement professionals. As a peer support member, I've provided assistance and guidance to colleagues navigating the complexities of their roles as law Enforcement Officers
My mission within the BPD resonates with the core values of the VJS: to uphold equality and fairness for all, irrespective of race, nationality, or sexual orientation. As a board member, I remain steadfast in my commitment to excellence and the equitable treatment of every individual within our community and organization.
